Ethics & Environmental Policies
Our Studio Policies & Practices
SUSTAINABILITY & RESPONSIBILITY
Although we are a small business, it’s hugely important to us that we do our part to support both our local community and the wider environment through everything we do.
We work consciously and carefully, choosing suppliers we trust wholeheartedly and maintaining transparency across our materials and processes.
We also plant a tree for every item purchased via Ecologi to help offset our carbon footprint.
WE PLANT TREES
Ecologi was created to tackle the climate crisis by planting trees and funding verified climate projects around the world.
It is widely recognised that protecting and restoring forests is one of the most effective tools we have to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and prevent ecological collapse.
Ecologi partners with Eden Reforestation Projects to plant millions of trees globally each month.
They also invest in Gold Standard certified carbon reduction projects, carefully selected to ensure measurable, high-impact CO₂ reduction.
By working with Ecologi, we are committed to operating as a carbon neutral business. Every purchase you make helps fund climate projects and plant trees - a small but meaningful step in addressing the climate crisis.
OUR MATERIALS & MANUFACTURING
Every piece is handmade either in our East London studio or by our talented seamstress in North East England, using high quality, ethically sourced materials.
We are proud to trace the origin of every fabric and component used in our pieces. Below is an overview of our materials and sourcing.
TULLES / LACES / PLAIN FABRICS
Our tulles and silk fabrics are sourced from British and European mills (France, Italy and Portugal) with strong working practices.
By ordering directly from the mill, we’re able to offer full traceability for every fabric we use.
EMBELLISHED FABRICS
Most of our embellished fabrics are designed and produced in-house. When we use ready made embellished bases, they are sourced from a family run mill in Kolkata, India, known for excellent working conditions and fair wages.
Ann-Marie has personally met the owner - an inspiring female entrepreneur helping reshape the Indian textiles industry.
GLASS BEADS
Our beads are sourced from the same Indian mill, from vintage suppliers, or from a Japanese bead company with strong ethical practices.
SEQUINS
Our sequins come from the last remaining sequin factory in the UK, located just around the corner from our studio in Stratford.
SWAROVSKI CRYSTALS
We source our crystals directly from Swarovski in Austria and maintain direct contact with their management to ensure employment standards meet our expectations.
FRESHWATER PEARLS
Our pearls come from a small, family run pearl farm in Yiwu, China. They are sustainably produced, and the farm provides fair wages and good working conditions.
SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES
We use semi-precious stones sparingly due to traceability challenges. The stones we do use are sourced through a British company in Hatton Garden with exceptionally high ethical standards.
They only work with suppliers who can demonstrate fair wages, safe workplaces, access to healthcare, compliance with local licensing and environmental regulations, and documented site transparency.
FEATHERS & FUR
We don’t use them.
We never have.
And we never will.
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICIES
Alongside planting trees, we aim to keep waste to an absolute minimum. Because our pieces are small and made to order, this is surprisingly achievable.
Fabric offcuts and surplus materials are regularly donated to local schools and creative organisations. When offcuts are large enough, we produce a Zero Waste Collection, creating new veils from leftover fabrics.
We only use water based fabric stiffeners (never solvent-based), as these are gentler on the environment.
We recycle as much as possible and proudly maintain a very small studio bin.
All of our packaging is made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, including our parcel tape.
We do use recyclable degradable plastic sleeves to protect veils during transit, particularly for long distance shipping. These are cut precisely to size to avoid excess waste and are designed to be reused for storage after your wedding day. We encourage you to keep and reuse them.
We are genuinely doing our best but we know there is always more we can do. If you have suggestions, however small, we would love to hear from you.
